Yesterday, Poppa, Embri, Ella and myself with Elaina on my back, went for a walk through the woods to end up at the branch. Along parts of the branch, there are steep banks that drop off into the water. We enjoyed throwing rocks, sticks, leaves and sand into the water. We saw huge rocks with the water flowing over top of them. Embri called those waterfalls. Embri, Ella and Poppa carried walking sticks. At one point, Ella got too close to the edge. She was about a foot from the embankment. For any adult, that would not have been too close but for a sometimes unsure-footed child, it was a little too close. Poppa stretched out his stick, said "No. No. You are getting too close. Come back over here," and he guided her back to safety with his stick.
"Your rod and your staff, They comfort me." Psalm 23:4c
I really understood what this meant and was able to see it in action as God doing that to us so that we don't have to learn things the hard way. He guides us like a father, gently steering us away from harm and back to safety.
Hope that helps you like it helps me. And as a side note, I'm thankful for a father from whom I can learn lessons like that. Thanks, Pops.
